How to install the Retro Clash APK on Android

A step-by-step guide to installing Clash of Clans 1.70 from the Retro Clash APK, plus fixes for the most common install errors.

Retro Clash isn’t on the Google Play Store, so on Android you install it from an APK file instead. It takes about a minute. This guide covers the whole process and what to do if something goes wrong.

Prefer not to install anything? You can also play in your browser on the same account.

Before you start

  • An Android phone or tablet.
  • A little free storage for the app and its game data.
  • A stable internet connection, since the game needs to reach our servers.

Step 1: Download the APK

Open the Retro Clash site on your Android device and tap Download next to Clash of Clans in the Android section. Your browser downloads a file ending in .apk.

If your browser warns that “this type of file can harm your device”, that’s the standard message for any APK. Tap Download anyway. Only ever download Retro Clash from the official links on this site.

Step 2: Allow your browser to install apps

Since Android 8, each app needs permission before it can install other apps. The first time you open an APK, Android asks for it:

  1. Open the downloaded file, from your browser’s downloads or the notification.
  2. When Android says installing unknown apps isn’t allowed, tap Settings.
  3. Turn on Allow from this source.
  4. Go back to finish the install.

The exact wording depends on your phone’s brand. You can also find it under Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps, then pick the browser you downloaded with.

Step 3: Install and open

Tap Install and wait a few seconds. When it’s done, tap Open, or find Retro Clash on your home screen or in your app drawer.

That’s it. Build your village.

Common problems

“App not installed”

  • Not enough storage. Free up some space and try again.
  • The download didn’t finish. Delete the APK, download it again, and make sure it fully completes.
  • A different build is already installed. If you installed an older or different Retro Clash build, uninstall it first and then install the new one.

Google Play Protect shows a warning

Play Protect warns about apps it hasn’t seen from the Play Store. If you downloaded the APK from this site, tap More details and then Install anyway.

The game opens but won’t connect

Check your connection, then close the app fully and open it again. If it still won’t connect, check our Discord server for any announced maintenance.

Updating

When a new version is released, download the new APK from this site and install it the same way. Announcements for new builds go out on Discord and in the news here.

Still stuck?

Ask in our Discord server. Include your phone model, your Android version and a screenshot of any error, and someone will help you out.
